'Be still, and know that I am God.'

If we want to know God in this life or in the next the first basic requirement is to be still. First still the physical body which is usually the first practice of meditation. Second still the emotions and the mind so we can prepare to meet God face to face who dwells beyond the human state of consciousness. The Ascended Masters teach: "When you get very still and the energy becomes perfectly quiet in your feeling world for sometime, then you automatically begin to see thru the veil -between your outer intellectual consciousness and your "I AM Presence," or into the Ascended Masters Octave. That is why, precious ones, if you want to see your Presence, you must acquire this stillness first." (The Voice of the I AM, September 1946 p14) Beloved Mighty Mercury teaches us: "The average person does not know how to let go of thinking. The average person does not know how to still the mental body, and that is what you need if you are to receive this Greater Light... Most people keep the blessed mental body so busy thinking... that... it... never becomes perfectly still. It approximates it sometimes in sleep." (The Voice of the I AM, 1973 March p13-14)

Through the regular practice of meditation we can learn to feel the Divine Love of God in our Heart chakra, still the mind and our feelings so we feel the Peace of God, see visions and even journey to the Inner Worlds while still living in a physical body, talk to God face to face, become One with God, etc. etc. According to the Eckankar Master Paul Twitchell in his book 'The Key to Secret Worlds' (pp 29-30) "The top of the head is the point at which the human self merges with Spirit. Those wishing to be initiated into the Supreme Consciousness must become as little children. This means that the opening must remain at the top of the head, like the soft spot of a baby. This is symbolized as the 'Narrow Way.' This was the name given to the small but significant and closely guarded door where the Spirit body comes and goes from the physical self. All the Adepts [or Masters] have known this truth, but it has been lost over the years since the Magi [the wise men from the east who brought gifts at Jesus' birth] or the Essenes used it to open the way for the neophytes to gain the glorious kingdom of God.'

T. Lobsang Rampa teaches in his book 'Chapters of Life' concerning the different stages of Meditation: "The second stage of meditation is that which brings the physical body in rapport with the Overself... Before one can meditate to this and higher standards, it is essential that one has a pure and lust-free life... The fourth stage of meditation takes us by way of the Silver Cord up to our Overself, and then by way of the Golden Cord of our Overself into the presence of that Great Entity which, for want of a better term down here, we call 'God.' (p150-151) He also teaches: "At last the fully evolved entity merges with the Overself." ('Feeding the Flame' p133)

Beloved Jesus teaches us: "Just in a great relaxed quiet, you sit still and just love the "Mighty I AM Presence" without asking It for anything, without remembering your mistakes or your problems. Just take a little time once in awhile, and I mean several times a day! I do not mean once in awhile in a week or month, I mean several times a day to have a few moments just to be still and enjoy loving your "Presence" and enjoying the Feeling of Love which your "Presence" will so gratefully release around you. I want you to feel your Love to the "Mighty I AM Presence" draw back into your beings and worlds a Peace and an Ease and a Relaxation which you have never before known in this embodiment, because in the Inner quiet of the "Mighty I AM Presence" It can show you the full Divine Plan, every detail of it long in advance of anything you might need to know at the present time. You do not know what your "Presence" will release to you, when you give It enough time and attention in that quiet Love which enables It to show you Itself and that which It wishes you to accomplish."(The Voice of the I AM, 1972 April p16)

CHAPTER 8.

Elihu’s lessons to Jesus' mother in Egypt

1Again Elihu met his pupils in the sacred grove and said,
5There are two selfs; the higher and the lower self.
6The higher self is human spirit clothed with soul, made in the form of God.
7The lower self, the carnal self, the body of desires, is a reflexion of the higher self, distorted by the murky ethers of the flesh.
8The lower self is an illusion, and will pass away; the higher self is God in man, and will not pass away.
9The higher self is the embodiment of truth; the lower self is truth reversed, and so is falsehood manifest.
10The higher self is justice, mercy, love and right; the lower self is what the higher self is not.
11The lower self breeds hatred, slander, lewdness, murders, theft, and everything that harms; the higher self is mother of the virtues and the harmonies of life.
12The lower self is rich in promises, but poor in blessedness and peace; it offers pleasure, joy and satisfying gains; but gives unrest and misery and death.
13It gives men apples that are lovely to the eye and pleasant to the smell; their cores are full of bitterness and gall.
14If you would ask me what to study I would say, yourselfs; and when you well had studied them, and then would ask me what to study next, I would reply, yourselfs.
15He who knows well his lower self, knows the illusions of the world, knows of the things that pass away; and he who knows his higher self, knows God; knows well the things that cannot pass away.
16Thrice blessed is the man who has made purity and love his very own; he has been ransomed from the perils of the lower self and is himself his higher self.
Kirpal Singh teaches on this subject: "The secret of success both here and hereafter lies in attuning the 'self' within the Overself or the Sound Current which is the be-all and end-all of all existence." ('The Mystery of Death' p47-48)
